Welcome To Flying Spoons
Hi, I'm Karen!
Having spent many years in schools, initially as a teaching assistant then as a primary teacher, I decided it was time for new challenges. My love of teaching and passion for good food led to the creation of Flying Spoons
where the aims are to encourage children to be enthusiastic about good food, to understand how to eat healthily, to learn basic cookery skills and of course have fun!
Creating dishes should be an adventure in discovering ingredients, experiencing exciting tastes and smells and eating delicious food. By giving children the opportunity to cook they learn about healthy eating, hygiene and food safety, whilst practising maths, science, literacy and other curriculum related skills in a meaningful and memorable way. Cooking can be creative and imaginative with an enjoyable end result!
In addition to working in schools I have experience working with pre-school and voluntary groups and I am a mother of three (now very grown up!) children. I have an enhanced CRB, level 3 Supervising Food Safety certificate and I am trained in paediatric first aid.
